    Northern Waikato doc blocks

Looking to do a few day hunts on sundays or mondays as these are my days off and dont want to travel more then a few hours for a quick poke around. Was thinking of trying to knock a few goats over at the miranda reserve but after calling do to suss out access apparently they have had some issues and its a no go for the time being. so im looking at the Matahuru, Mangapiko, Karakariki blocks, does anyone on here have any experiences with these blocks and any info to share? Never been to any but they are all relatively close to home so dont mind checking out a few on the days off.

Cheers any help is most appreciated.

Hello Haggie. I've been up to both Matahuru and Mangapiko. I've only shot goats once at Matahuru but Mangapiko was productive on most occasions, if not all. Trouble with those two is DOC no longer service the hiking tracks (or weren't a while ago) which is not a problem for Matahuru but Mangapiko can be quite fun heading through the bush but I do know my way around it though (sort of). Haven't been there for a few years now.
I could be persuaded to take you there sometime.

Nah shitloads of goats, we got there at around 6 30 and they were allready out on the surrounding farms paddocks and had no real interest of going back in. Ask the farmer if we could bowl a few on his place but he declined saying he likes to keep the numbers up so he can slay a few every now and again to feed fee his dogs. If you got there at 5 or 4 30 and set up on the fringes you would be able to get a few coming out but we were too late for that.

Maybe sometime I can show the right places to go. Summer is good because there is enough time to do the rounds before getting dark but winter is way cooler. Autumn is a good compromise although I have been caught in a rather dark forest after sunset. Not the end of the world though.

Matahuru on the other hand is way quicker. I've done it after work in summer and got some goats too. Only once though but I haven't been there often.
