What do I think would happen if I had words with the operator? Probably nothing, but at the very least I would let him know the sadness and disappointment I would have felt if I was that ground hunter and maybe, hopefully this may ping something in the man's conscience and effect a change.

Yes it may be preferrable to be proactive and not reactive. However this does not mean that we are never to react.
