NZDA short survey on Tahr hunting.

I didn’t realise they were still culling until right now. Saddens me and pisses me off well over 50,000 signatures and nobody listens.

Yet some politicians are lining up on the steps of parliament to receive petitions with 10,000 signatures from other parts of society.

Must be time for some better shooters, plan has allocated 200 helicopter hours of search and 'control' within the feral range. Another 100 hours outside the range ( which I have no problem with)

With Docs 30,000 estimated population your 0.01% is only 300 tahr. Hardly what you'd call economic, but only 300 tahr culled would be a great result for hunters.

Nah. I was referring to the percentage of the population who signed the petition.

Done, the last time I wen up with the NZDA and Phil Wilson, we saw nothing but bulls and juvi bulls. interesting to see what others experiences were.

I've seen a few nannies and kids in places so there's still some breeding stock around.

In a 12-month period spanning 21/22, 7000 tahr were removed. Same for 22/23, another 7000 removed. 23/24 yet to be announced. Hunters will certainly be starting to see a lot less animals. With the huge reduction in nannies and juvenile bulls, as the remaining mature bulls (which are meant to be left out of the cull) are taken as trophies or die of old age, finding a trophy bull in 5 or so years' time is going to become far more difficult.
