Not joining Christchurch (Canterbury) deerstalkers, EVER.

You don't charge new members more, than the normal for existing members, yearly fee, you charge LESS!, to encourage new members.

Might join if they ever changed that stupid policy.

This seems to be a rather strange policy if what you post here is true?
I have no reason to doubt you, but even I have read stuff wrong and then you think was I on about.
Back to the policy I think it is rather short sighted of them. The more young people we can get into the sport the better as far as I'm concerned.
Is it a one off payment? Or an annual one?

After the first year you pay the same as everyone else, you just pay more to join first up, have had the argument with them a couple of times when asked to join.

Did they give a reason for charging newbies more?
Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

When I was in Christchurch 20+ years ago they were still charging new sign ups like this. Think it was a setup cost. Dumb idea if you ask me as they are now reaping what they have sown. It was a strong club IIRC.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Yeah it's true. It's some half baked way to keep new members away, so the commitee can moan about memberships dropping (sarcasm). Last meeting I pointed out to a few committee members that only 8 out of 45+ members present were under the age of 50, and something had to change or the club was done for in 10 years. Lots of blowing of cheeks and shit. The old boys club aspect of my local is a point of contention. It's how a certain circle go takahe culling without the rest of the branch even being aware that it was going on. Debating as to whether I stay or not myself to be honest.

we might be at the same NZDA @Tommy - a few months in to the new financial year and still nobody putting their hand up for the secretary position leaving a fairly obvious empty seat each club night. not exactly what you would want to see from a club perspective. good to see a young fella in the role as treasurer though

Yep that's the one. Have had the odd nudge to give that role a crack, but already do a couple sundays a month on the range and my missus would be pretty displeased as I already work some Saturdays.
They need new members, and putting a barrier up is stupid stupid stupid.
