Thread: NZTopo50 help

Hey team

Can someone help me with the search function on the app? When I research a block on the DOC website they often give a NZTopo50 reference. For example I was looking into the Caitlins block and it has a reference of CG13 and CG14.
Is there some way to search for this on the app? It would be super handy instead of zooming and scrolling to find the particular block, especially when there are multiple blocks in close proximity of each other.

That’s a reference to the paper map sheet, rather than a particular set of co-ordinates. You can use topomap.co.nz which supports searching by mapsheets, but surely it’s not that hard just to browse around on the app, or search by a particular geographic feature in the block instead? X stream or Y peak etc.

The only way looks like loading a custom map layer but I don't know how to do that.

If you use: https://www.topomap.co.nz/

Along the top menu, clip on the drop down "...More", then select "Info Layers", A Menu of info layers will appear on the left, click on "Topo50 Map Sheets". Alternatively use the search box, type in the map reference and it will pop up highlighted on the map.

Ah I see so it’s not linked to the app then. It’s not so bad searching around for the correct block, I was just hoping for a shortcut

I don’t think you can search for map sheets or grid references on the app, only place names. You can get the grid references to show so you could scroll around for that.

shortcut....find block and pin something on it... a deer icon works... then when searching again its piece of cake to find it when zooming in.
