Just be awear that there is a fair bit of the cockys land outside of the deer 'ring' fence on his property. Ie the fence is not the boundry
You should be able to see it (public land) clearly on nz topo 50.
The further up you go...ie altitude the better the hunting gets. The owner is actually a good bugger and he might not mind you bowling something over on his land outside the fence if you contact him first.

gday everyone. where do you park your vehicle? im looking for somewhere to get my young indicating dog onto some goats as shes not far off being ready, is it okay to bring my dog into this block?

Anyone been up to the back of this block? Walked in on Friday and sure enough the river bed was blocked by the second waterfall. We tried climbing up some of the faces/ridges in an attempt to get to the more open areas up top but it was so steep. Tried several times and turned around each time because it was bit dodgy. Still fun shooting a few goats and saw some pigs on the private land but I would be keen to hear how anyone got up the tops/out the back of the block. Feel free to dm

There are two ways to legally access the block. First and easiest is to pay for access through the gamepark (Glencree). Before that was an option I found a way up out of the river before the big waterfall, it's dodgey as so I'm not willing to explain it on here but if you're keen enough and have a good head for exposed climbing than just know there is a way to do it. Once the private land access started becoming more frequent I stopped heading in there. It's a small narrow block, so sharing it with other hunters can be difficult.
I found it to hold large numbers of goats, a decent amount of reds and a few fallow. If Glencree are still offering access through the farm then that would be how I'd go about it. That way they know you're out there so won't be out there themselves and you are bloody unlikely to have someone climb their way in. I spent 20odd years in Kaikoura and although I talked to a lot of people who had tried to get in there no one had ever found a feasible route except for myself and now that I've got kids I don't think I'm game enough to try my old goat track again haha.
Good info there hook_grass, what was the station access charge last time you went in?
I never went through the station myself, if I recall correctly one party of hunters I met in there had paid $60 to be dropped out the back. A quick message to the south pacific safaris (Glencree) Instagram page would give you more up to date information. I was last in there 2 1/2 years ago now. Good luck in there just beware that almost the entire western side of the block is bordered by game parks so be 100% sure of the doc area boundaries to save yourself any dramas.
