Te Urewera is genuine pig dogs only, during winter season. Why they don’t allow deer indicating dogs is beyond me.
They’re not that many pigs, but plenty of deer in there.
They sight your dog before issuing a dog permit so if you’re indicating dog looks like a pig dog you may get it past them, but viszlas etc would be an instant no.

Waioeka or Whirinaki you can take any dog you like as long as it’s kiwi trained, so it’s easier to just go there instead.
