New to the forum , hi all
looking to have crack at a kaimai red but have no hunting experance in the area , any advise would be appreciated.
ive recently moved to te puke and was thinking about heading in from old kaimai rd but am open to suggestions.

I was up there yesterday/today, mostly old sign. Not a bad area, but it would appear it’s not a summer spot.
They were a couple of guys in 4wd having a play on the car park today as I passed nearby. I hate leaving my car there, too many idiots hanging around that car park.
If your new to it you really need compass/map/GPS and know how to use them! It’s rolling country in there and with all the old tram lines easy to get miss placed. The sign in there used to start livening up towards the roar as the stags in the bush fight it out with the ones on the Farm :)
I’ve shot two off the old slip at the start/top of the road before:thumbsup: otherwise go for it. Keep it nice and slow! If your sweating your going to fast. Move your head as much as possible bend down look round trees look for shape not the whole deer. Once you see one they just start to stick out, like a penny dropping.
Just be 110% in identifying and your firing zone. As it can get busy in there and you don’t want to fire back towards the highway :O_O:
If you can get someone to drop and pick you up then that saves on the car pack trouble.
If I had my choice I’d mountain bike into Mountfords road. Think it’s the next access down the range. Then fly camp in there. But you need to go to the tarseal road end as the first one on the right is No access and they will slash your tires also last time I was there they had a P lab going :wtfsmilie: cops have closed that but you have been warned.
True road end is best and the farmer with the house up on the right is a good guy. He won’t give you permission to shoot on his land but knock on his door anyway and ask for any advice on do don’ts. Hope this helps and good luck.

I have never had a problem parking there, must be good luck on my part.

Never had issues parking anywhere up there.
Usually go for a hunt at the old blade, Ngamuwahine or further along towards Katikati, when visiting my family in Tauranga. These days I tend to leave the glovebox & console lid open to show there's nothing worth stealing.
To be fair, have never had a problem parking in that area.
Going to have a crack at the Hendersons Tramline area next weekend ,get a feel for the place , il let you know how i get on.

go in early. its about 45mins to a hour before first tram clearing, you would want to be there when its just light enough to see.Quote:

It's worth walking the loop at least once to have a look around.
we got to the car park at 5 am noticed a bit of old sign at the first clearing but decided to push on and try and get a feel for the place, left the trail aprox 1 km up the north/south track found a area about 500m west of the track that showed heaps of old sign and some very recent stuff, stalked for about an hour as the sun was now up, no luck so we found a spot up wind and stayed still for around half an hour , could hear a deer barking and it sounded close so started stalking again, no luck .
The kaimais deserve the rep as a hard place to stalk, very hard to be quiet.
so the first trip was not a success but i am now determined to beat the place, will try again after the roar.
@muka88 good one just keep going back to the same place. And take notes time date weather you will then build up a picture of when the animals are in the area. If you heard one cool your on the right track. Remember it took me three years to get one out of there. If I'd stayed in the same spot instead of always trying some place new I'd have halved that time easily.
Never had any problems parking there, Like queen st during the roar. Plenty of deer through out. Really shity bush but with some nice hidden tracks that you can stumble apon. Hows ya bush stalking skills ?
