    Otaki Forks

Anyone hunted up around Kime hutt area? Thinking of planning a fly into that area, any hints for time of year and maybe what it's like up there, haven't been there since a college trip years ago. looking at going for 10 days.

i did a walk upto kime last Monday from otaki side only took 2.45hours with a 5kg pack but i wouldn't fly there was groups of 12 and 15 people staying up there and is a people highway. i only went up for lunch then did the run back to the car. maungahuka hut would be a better place to fly as its a bigger walk and not for your day trampers

unless he means fly camp, but ive always been told after christmas to hit the tararua tops. some nice looking tussock basins up there. A fairly busy area. Dont discount the waiotauru or waitewaewae or pen creek areas either

For that type of commitment in time & cost it would probably be better being outside the Kaka Corridor. See if you can find a DoC map of the drop zone. Maungahuka & Aokap are right in the middle. Perhaps look more closely into Boaraxa's picks.
