    Otaki Forks Goats

Hi all - I am new to hunting and looking to target goats to get some experience. Was looking at the creeks around Otaki Forks. Would this be a good place to find goats? if not, any suggestions on general areas to head into. Happy to walk reasonable distances.

Any advice would be very helpful.

    Thanks,
    Liam

Definitely goats in there. Also the corner creek area over Ocean Beach is a good shout for goats.

Have a gander up some of the big open creeks running downhill in the orongorongos (across the river). Plenty of them feeding on the big open slips when the sun is out and it isn't blowing a gale.

I have been to Otaki forks about 5-6 times over the last 10 years. Each time I have seen goats up the Waitatapia.

I can add that if you go to the end of the Mangatarere and walk into Sayers hut, there is a decent chance of bumping into goats.

There is usually a few around South Saddle too, but note the the Orongorongo and Mt Matthews can get quite busy at weekends this time of year. Its also a fairly big day walking there and back again.

I haven’t been into Mid Waiohine or Neil-Forks in the last two years, but have always seen goats at both of those locations in the past. Again a big walk to both, better to overnight rather than do a return trip.

If you try at least three of the suggestions in this thread and haven’t had any luck in three months time, get in touch.
