Oteake - worth a look ?
Got a week or so hunting lined up in the deep south in a few weeks time - chasing red stags. My favoured plan's "A & B" are both public land within a couple of hours drive of TeAnau, but both these areas likely to get hammered if another weather bomb hits Fiordland/Southland which seems to be the pattern at present ..... so looking for some options for a "plan C" in drier parts of the south within a few hours drive of Q'town. Was thinking Ahuriri but also wondered about Oteake. Looks like it has plenty of 4wd access so perhaps it gets hammered ? Also recall a year or so back it got waro'd quite heavily. Any recent intell or suggestions would be much appreciated.

You’ll find something if you give it a decent go

you could give the kirklistons a go not so much pressure, access can be a challenge (you have to know who to talk to) but quite a variety of animals to hunt
