Howdy all, heading to Canada soon and the question of hunting insurance has been raised, has anyone here been able to get any? and if so, who did you get it through?
Cheers

Cheers for the reply, but hunting is excluded in there policy wording, which seems to be a common theme among all the companies I’ve looked at
When I hunted in North America incl Canada, a few years ago now, the hunt clubs / guides who supplied the firearms were insured for liability and so forth and had evacuation insurance from the site of any injury to hospital. That was so they would not be exposed waiting for an overseas insurer to be contacted and OK ground or rotary ambulance costs. Then my NZ travel cover would have kicked in for hospital expenses after arrival at hospital, and flights home (I checked, in writing). IMO a good idea to read the fine print and make sure recreational hunting is not excluded. If it's not mentioned, I'd ask the question specifically. But then I'm avowedly paranoid...
Thanks for that sightpicture!! I’ll contact my guide and ask the question, my wife is a broker and she can’t find anyone yet that doesn’t exclude hunting, also BASE jumping doesn’t seem to be covered by anyone .......
That's a useful update for me --- my last hunting trip (PA and UT in US and BC in Canada) was ~5 years ago. Drat if NZ cover options have now changed. FWIW I have a yearly policy for frequent travel with a limit on the number of days out of NZ. Dunno if that made / makes a difference to cover.
Maybe see if SSAA Australia would cover you

When I used to skydive , I had an insurance to cover me during my jumps abroad .
There were 6 levels of risks: from 1 ( tramping, and casual holidays) to 6 ( skiing). Skydiving and BASE jumping were at level 4 only, on par with golfing.
Insurances are usually really accurate with their statistics and how much you potentially can cost them .
interesting thread,i havent been able to get cover for hunting while in nz, if there is a company out there i'd like to know
