    Peacocks

    Hi

We have a peacock problem and some times you can go out and shoot 60 to 100 and im talkin night after night easy, however the last couple of weeks they have disapared form the rossting trees, they are everywhere during the day but gone at night and because they are extreamly hard to shoot in open paddocks during the day in the numbers we need to i need to find out whats happened, Any clues would be good ie; do they have a nesting time on the ground at this time of year??

We have the same problem, trying to get the pheasant numbers up so the peafowl need culling.

They will have other roosting trees in the area, scout around during the day (look for shit underneath the trees) and dirt nests.. then go back at night. From my experience, they don't move around much after dark.

I'm considering buying a semi .223 to deal to them.

    Where are you based.

Invite some off the forum in for a shoot. I have hunted them for years and regard them highly as a gamebird.

We used to get a lot of overseas shooters in and they paid well for a peacock safari

just go on a quiet night before dark and sit and listen.

they usually call just as the sun is setting

otherwise just follow them back to their roosting spot one evening.

I have an ar but only 15 peacocks. Im letting them breed, I want the problem numbers so I have something to shoot.

Iv found they dont seem to be scared of my horse either, so if you have a 22Lr with subs that might be the way to get them during the day. On foot they scram faster than fast as soon as they spot me

If you get a young hen they taste pretty good. Peacocks not so much.
