    Peahen & .22WMR

Managed to sneak out on a short walk to chase some peafowl today. Fantastic fun, and quite a challenge for a novice peafowl hunter! I imagine it would be a lot easier with a shotgun, but I adore my cheap Marlin .22WMR with 4x32 budget scope attached. I must say, I find the .22 Magnum to be a brilliant calibre, it's just so versatile! I've seen too many small game species (rabbit, possum) not quite drop to inaccurate .22LR shots, which is never a great look. .22WMR takes marginal inaccuracies out of the equation, and can be great for learner shooters too - it simply stops small game in its tracks. My partner, a crack shot but prone to the jitters as a relative newbie, loves the reliability of the little mag. Furthermore, it's the perfect calibre for humane euthanasia of cattle, I've found (vet in real life)!

Anyhow, here's the lovely hen I took at 20 metres. Really chuffed. Have chopped up the breast meat and its marinating overnight - anyone got any experience with cooking peafowl? Any help much appreciated!

    Cheers
