Yes plus one on Moonhunt. Muckos Hat and I will be meeting him this weekend
Was, but when the kids arrived the hunting with dog's slowed down and eventually stopped
I've been super keen to get out and try pig hunting with dogs since getting to ChCh nearly 2 years ago but don't know anyone who hunts with dogs!
I carry a 30-30 but havnt used it on a pig, i met a nasty bastard one day and wont hunt without one, but stick 99.9% of my pigs, my dogs are not boof head holders but do grab em so i can grab them
That pig in my avitar i stuck then had to kick his head out the way as it lunged at me
Matt do you go on the other forum, a few pig hunters down your way on there, ask you never know, offer some gas/beer even better a spot with pigs, and leave your rifle at home
Cant edit my first post.... nasty pig that was, could be read wrong
I used to live for it, but its such a commitment I had to let it go when my three kids came along. I had 4 dogs, 3x finder/bailers and a dogo/AM bulldogX.
I would say that pig hunters are the most dedicated of all hunters as they never get a brake from it, 24/7 looking after, training and hunting the dogs. Then there's the cost - about $1200 per dog/per year without the vet bills...and if you do get a vet bill then that usually runs $300min to thousands of dollars each time.
Its a great sport and I sympathise with those who have no choice i.e. farmers who's paddocks and lambs get smashed each year, for them its a necessity not an option.

Long way for you but i would take you out for a walk up here if you were in the area
Nice looking Pig Moonhunt. I reckon that the ginger and blacks always seem to look more meaner than the all black's. Never had a pig's head mounted, but if I did it would of been ginger coloured.
The skulls of pigs look mean, I have the jaw of my first pig only a baby and one my uncle gave me that's huge. My mate recently boiled the skull and jaw and it looks pretty cool.
So is there only one hard core pig hunter here?
Euro, or euro cross, well thats what we call them, had my biggest vet bill and most damage from an 80lber like that one, i got a nice black boar a couple of years back that should have been mounted but never thought about it at the time
Toby i wouldnt call myself hard core, im quite relaxed these days, have been wanting to get into other types of hunting but as Kimjon said its a commitment, i cant keep dogs locked up and just look at them, down to 2 dogs now, in the retirement faze but just cant let it go
Have a look at 'going the wholehog' join up and have a look at some pics from the hard core guys
Do you want a tusk to make a necklace, i have a broken jaw here with one tusk split the other is fine, pm your postal if you want it
Nah I'm alright thanks. I've done a little bit of pig hunting with dogs its fun but I'd never have my own dogs. just wondering if this forum had hard core pig hunters. Never really see much pig hunting action on the forum
Im usless at telling a story unless we sat down and got half cut
Got this last week i think it was, on my own, getting dark, caught and found by one dog, no damage but did take me an hour to carry it just under 200 meters, half way back up the hill i had to drop it and cut a track out it was so thick in the rubbish, that made the rest of the carry a bit easier
Poor photo it was getting dark and off the phone

Brilliant. the photo angle makes it look huge
Yes , but he has plenty of cattle breeding in him so should and can bail if he needs , he learnt a hard lesson a year or so back, my mate saved his life , he got hit in the jugular and was bleeding out in the creek, he now has a rip collar around his neck, never been a fan of them but a simple collar can save a dogs life
I have a lot of fun hunting just one dog, my bitch is soft and only ever caught a 40lber on her own, she had a nice fat 70lber bailed up a while ago, I learnt that 303 bullets don't quite fit the 30-30 haha, so let her down big time
Hunting one dog, taking the kids out, huntinging with a few good mates and also taking out someone that hasn't experienced it what keeps me going, ask deano, he had a ball, we got a small pig, saw a bigger one , he loved it and that makes it worthwhile , couple more hunts we might corrupt him yet and sway him this way... You never know

Brilliant Moonhunt, only ever pig hunted once with my uncle who lives by the Fox river on 'the' West Coast.....did'nt get a bail though....not sure if my knees are up to it now, running through the bush chasing after the pig with the dogs!!!!
would love to 'stick' one though, just for the experience.......
heaps of pig hunters up here, my good mates are as keen as they come
I just want the deer personally.
Very cool, moonhunt. I can't wait till I get a gundog.
Talked to a lady the other day with a dog she got from the SPCA. Looked like a pigdog to me. I guess a few of the dogs that go through the SPCA are from pig hunting litters.
Mate that is so wrong. A good dog is breed. You can't buy a good dog in normal circumstances, as the hunter doesn't want to part with them. Most of the dogs you see that are for sale are dogs they don't want anymore and don't fit their pack. A hunter might gift a dog for awhile to a young fella to get him started, but normally on the condition it comes back or is paid for eventually. Price of a top dog, if you find one for sale that is, Between $1500-$3000 and sometimes more. You don't get good dogs from the pound, only someone else's cast off. Tried that trick a time or two. LoL
'Do you want a tusk to make a necklace, i have a broken jaw here with one tusk split the other is fine, pm your postal if you want it'
Hey Moonhunt, if Toby doesnt want it, i'll take it off your hands, getting a collection of 'cast offs' to decorate my man cave.....Ill pay post!
Maybe I worded that wrong mate but I didn't mean to suggest you could get a good pig dog from the Spca - I wouldnt have a clue about that haha. I just said that dog looked like pigdog stock and that the spca must see a few pups that are unwanted by pig hunters and go astray.

im not a hard core pig hunter but ive been out most weekends catching a few pigs with a few foxys. nothing huge just big enough to keep the freezer full. biggest would be 110ish. bloody good fun with the little dogs
Ha ha ha.
Reminds me of one of my non hunting mates who is a bit nervous of my dogs.
Whenever he turns up I yell "sic balls !" and they both run up to him to get a pat .
Nervous lad round dogs.

Had its ass lined up for about 10mins then it walked off, back again side on 150m and.... nothing haha
Attachment 13610 this boar was bailed by the two foxy crosses
Big pig. The mod makes me think of Hawaii. Diamond Head ha ha ha ha
na just bail or grab the legs. had them holding a couple 80lbers
From the archives. supposed to say, 164lb, 178lb, 191lb and 218lb. All but the 218 were with holding dogs and a knife, the 218 was shot with a 6.5 whilst pushing my broken down motor bike, lucky me. I was very lucky to team up with the then better Pig Hunter in the BOP when I first started Pig Hunting. the first 3 were with him.
