    Pig medicine

What calibre do you guys tend to use for pigs and the tougher NZ game?

Sorry I know this is probably going to open a whole can of worms, but we come over once a year to visit familly ( I'll be over for Xmas )and Id quite like to get a rifle to bring with me on our visits and for when we are finally living there.

Thanks in advance for your replies

223 can take pigs and deer, with correct shot placement. But to be safe anything 6.5mm or larger will easily do the job.

Depends on tho type of country your going to hunt i spos?
223 would not be ideal if you might be shooting longer distance.
Ya 243 should be plenty with the right projectile and placement.
300 wouldn't be out of place tho.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

Oh well, I thought it might be a good excuse to get one...

270 is a popular calibre for Reds over here, I quite like the 6.5x55 though.

So what do you guys tend to use on the pigs?

Just about every farmer here in Queensland that has a pig problem owns a 308.
As a working , hard use , economical farm tool ,with great availability of ammo then a 308 is the obvious choice .
After the 308 would come the .223 for all the same reasons as the 308 , but it doesn't give you the same margin of error .
In my personal view .243 is about perfect and gets the job done without any fuss or bother

At least after you have stuck one you can open a nice bottle of wine and pull the splinters out of your fingers
