This was a massive problem for us when we looked after a 300 acre small holding in the Vic High Country, on an old privately owned soldier settlement block in the middle of the Alpine National Park.

There's a very comfy cabin, great hunting, feral brumbie catching one-way gates on the fence. The problem was the property is the trail head for a number of old tracks cut way back in the day.

We lost count of the number of unwelcome visits from the previous owner's family. They'd just turn up, camp there, base their horse treks from there. I was out shooting long range rabbits with the .223, the first time I ever took my youngest son. I took shot a bunny a long ways off, blew it up and out of the bushline about 60-70 yards down to the left, a man on horseback appeared, unimpressed. The resulting argument could quite easily have come to blows if my young 'un hadn't been there.

The last straw was when we came back after a hike to find them in the cabin, pissed as septic tank rats. I went into the pub in Benambra and had a yarn with the grandfather of this mob. I'd been told by my mate who owns the block that he was a GC. Grandpa fixed it and we didn't see anyone else for the duration of our stay (2 months). Just the way it works I guess.
