Hunt anywhere other than Taranaki. There's a couple of very small pockets of deer on public land in Taranaki but you'll have more luck hunting another region

Yes, but there are heaps of goats in Taranaki which is great for the novice hunter and may I say Northland easily takes out first place for most shit hunting region.
pop around to local DOC office..get your permit and ASK NICELY the y grizzly old bugga out the back office will know where to send you.
75/15/10 black powder matters
And if you want a bit of company, on week days esp, from an old fella who does lots of reloading give us a yell....
I know a lot but it seems less every day...
Funny; I rang DOC Whanganui a while ago to clarify access points for a hunting block. Just to be on the safe side. The lady said to me "It makes a change for someone to ring us about hunting and not ask where the best spots are". She then laughed and said "We never tell them though because we like to hunt too"....
cheers mate appreciate it
@Knucks feel free to come along to the club night at the north Taranaki deer stalkers next week, if you're interested in joining I'm sure we could get you onto a few animals. Details in the link below

Hi Knucks I highly recommend this
When we shifted down for work in the Naki (2007 to 2010) I joined up with the North Taranaki NZDA, great bunch of guys and I recognise a few names still on the committee (Robbie is a good Bugger), Went out on a few hunts that they organised including a fly in trip, range days and access to farms for duck shooting and rifle sight ins. Gave me way more than expected and once we are settled in an area will re-join the local NZDA again.
Cheers FBD
