    Question Public Land Roar Predictions?

    Hi All,

Curious to when people think each region/area's public land Red Deer will start moaning?
I would love to for people to specify an area and throw their predictions in.

Around the full moon? In the alps or on the coast? and any other considerations/superstitions. Throw in all of the reasoning you want. High fives for the closest guess's

Mate of a mate reckoned roar down south will be a fizzer this year. You guys don't need to come down and waste your time!

Was nice to hear some farm deer starting to warm up on Tuesday night though.

As a total WAG for Hawkes Bay I pick 21 March for Reds. In the UK their date works out to 25 March. I have often heard an early Sika roar in the last week end in March.

I reckon first week of April. 2nd-9th more specifically, around Ruahine hut.

Reason... That's when I'll be there

All I know is that be careful it’s going to full of hunters all making up for last year. I might just wait until it’s cold and the hoards don’t want to go into the shit weather.

Stags are in lock down this year.
I’ll be in the southern tararuas, last year after lock down was over and back into level three I was working remotely and heard the odd moan and that was really late! The year before, same area, I shot one going off it’s tits April 1st, so my prediction is I don’t know

That first real cold snap in late March / early April. I like to think @Dorkus is on the money, but further south....

From next week till the end of April you'll see action. Guaranteed. Just depends where you're hunting.

Same general times they go each year based on the area and conditions etc. I normally work off late March - mid/late April as the general rule for wild reds with peaks and lows throughout that window based on multiple things. Obviously there is variations outside of that but in my experience it’s not common enough to predict. A mate had some dude walking around trying to roar at stags a week or so ago in the Ruahines... reckons he wanted to yell out to shut that racket up, the roar is still weeks away so easy on that trigger please. Similar to the annual facebook posts in February asking if the stags are roaring yet haha..
