    Puketoi Hunting advice

    Hi everyone,

I hunt alot in the Waewaepa reserve near the Puketoi range, near Dannevirke.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on where to enter the Puketois? I see one track on the GPS way down the south end, but other than that no tracks that I can see. Also that one track I mentioned, though technically it is in Public hunting area according to my GPS, looks too large and well maintained and makes me worry I'd be on private land.

Anyone hunt the Puketois and have any advice? The Waewaepa reserve is too full of hunters these days!

No idea where the hell that is but have you tried a few different maps to look at it, just saying this as some have better resolution that others, iphone while they have shit arse navigation and dont even have all the roads have really good resolution, google not so much, just a thought until the locals fill you in

I don't know if its any help, but the one time I've been there, we stayed on the side of puketoi rd as marked on the map; https://goo.gl/maps/rBo3Zz8vGc9r697o9
at this spot. We walked down the adject 4wd track that went east onto the edge of farmland for a look, and we also sat on the road edge 1-200m north up the road and watched down into the gulleys and further north onto slips 500m away in the evening. We saw one and some goats. Its probably walkable down into the gully northward and up the hill on the otherside from there but I didn't. It was a favourite spot of the old mans but hes in no condition to walk off-road these days. It was just a quick overnight stop. Hope thats some use to you.

Good ole Rogee and his mates from BOB have ruined the Waewepas. I’ve heard there’s a booking system now…
    The Puketois will be next.
    😀😀

Argh yes the legendary Rogee. Don't he and his crew set up and shoot off the tracks in there?

Yea I've been hunting the Waewaepas for like a decade, my dad and my poppa used to hunt there. Since Rogee started putting all his vids up it's soooo busy. A mate told me recently he saw like nearly 30 people walking the road recently. Now we even run into people way up at our Pozzy at the back of the park.

I also ran into a couple of guys at my other Pozzy in the southern Rauhines. I asked them how they found the spot and they told me Rogee sent them 🤦

In some ways I don't mind. It's public land after all! But when it happens in all your spots it does get a bit annoying.

Yea they set up right on the paper road, and shoot deer like 500-600m into the forest park. So they're not even claiming and spooking those close clearings, but half the park too.
