if the weathers good don't stop at the piropiro campsite continue thru and drive the forestry roads there are campsites all over and its better if you can get a distance between you and the cycle track (much quieter) there are deer there little harder to hunt than other places spooked one on Saturday gps is definitely a plus in there and a compass and map goes without saying its one of those areas that everything looks the same once your in the thick stuff and its very easy to walk around in big circles and not know it till you check your compass or gps . haven't seen anything coming out on the felled out areas yet (all overgrown with blackberry and shit now) I broke out of the bush into one on Saturday ....lots of pig rootings . goats and feral cats down there too

yo, head to end of ketemaringa rd, walk the track to the trig but after about 20 minutes cut off down to the left (pick a ridge/spur) it's primo bush hunting down there, (was deer-city once..)

(also was an old orange railway-tarp hut hidden on one of the ridges.. still there?.. dunno..) also an impressive bluff/canyon with grassy creek and waterfall down in off a side creek.. ,

of course she's a slog back up to the track with a deer, but get back on the track and all plain sailing back to the road-end.. good luck

Never saw or heard anything , but I wasn't trying that hard .
If you did a 15km loop in one day mate you may find you do better if you scale that back too 5km and pay a little more attention.
Its all bush in there and enough deer sign too be worth the effort ...

That was a recon mission more than a hunt , was first time in there so was just covering some ground to get an idea of where they are, have been in 3 or so times and missed a nice hind since then

    plenty of animals in area.
use to hunt it a lot when living at home.
Did a overnighter by myself on trip home 12 months ago and stayed at Piro Piro Flat shelters .
Were disgusted to find wood box stuffed full of half eaten take away food and rubbish everywhere in empty shelter.
Was even more dismayed to find some animal had done a shit right beside meat safe.
I carted two black plastic bags of rubbish out with me.
Sad as its a great spot and used by a lot of family's over summer months.
