    Pureora north block

Potentially a very old and abused question but is there any public access to the pureora north block? ive asked on a facebook group and that was very little help apart from finding out "theres no deer there". i used to have access to a private block on the northern end of the north block but property has now sold. ive also looked on a website that shows all the paper roads and it does show one going down hoddle road through papahiwi station right to the bush edge and actually north though the bush to join up with wall rd? i dont really want to turn up with a picture showing the paper road and demand to be let through so wondering how others have gone about it. Im northland based so its not quite as easy as door knocking and asking for access hence the reason for asking for some hints and tips on here.
Aaaaand also i was looking at wildlife hut in the other pureora block, is there 4wd access right through to the hut?

    Thanks in advance

1080 hasn't started yet and as already stated only southern end of north blk is scheduled. I believe end of August now.

Wildlife hut is accessible by 4wd. There is a large hole just before the hut but you should be okay. If it wasn't for that you would nearly get 2wd in when dry.

Wall road turns in to a farm track with a locked gate.

Hoddle road does the same but there is poled access. Your best bet would be to call in and see the cocky and have a chat to him.

You can go off Tolley road. Park at the end of the road and there's a marked walking track going through farmers paddock to bush. The farmers up there are good sorts just don't stray off the track.

Waitamaroa road starts at the bennydale end and goes literally right through the middle of the north block to the top. This might be your best option if not coming down very often, we use to drive along the road until we saw some deer prints on the side of the road and go from.

Re Hoddle rd, I doubt the land owner would be happy as he often has private hunters on his land, I know he's aproachable and may be OK with hunters parking and walking the grass strip outside his fence and the DOC bush along his northern boundary but he's adament that his fences are well inside his boundary so any deer shot on the grass margin would technically be on his land. I know he's had a lot of poaching with guys walking in and then once around the corner out of sight and sound from the house then jumping the fences and taking deer well onto his land.

PS looking at the Public access map Hoddle road as a paper road stops at Mangaoronga stream. So no public access all the way up into that eastern & southern blocks or up the track over the saddle to the west.

Was more than rough last time up there, don't think any DOC $'s will have been spent there.

Yep goes into the middle of the Ranganui block and there were plenty of spots to camp just off the road. might pay to ring Doc in Bennydale and see what they say about the road its crosses over a ford in the waipapa river. Cheers.

    hey mate,
just looking at the sattelite pics, it looks like gravel road up until where that tiny green strip juts out about 3/4 up the blue section on your map. Do you know if its public road up to that point (im geussing that little strip is the poled route?).
