Yep that's pretty crap.
I got a mate moving down Pureora way this weekend for a new farm job. Hopfully he stays on for a few seasons now.
What the hell? I've just been down there with the old man sorting out where to go. Why do they repeatedly do this unnecessary rubbish?
Just seen this post............ This fulla lost his dog.
Mitch DawsonNO to 1080 use in NZ

Yesterday my pup aged 11months died in my arms at the vets after eating this shit it is horrible to watch he was dead in under a hour spewing at 40 minutes seizures at 50 minutes and I got him put down to end the suffering how is this stuff legal all its going to take is a to is a kid to eat this stuff and the government is going to have a lot to answer for why use something with no proper treatment
You know that the DOC hierarchy aren't the least bit interested in any logical argument against the use of 1080. They want to destroy all the deer, completely eradicate them along with all other introduced species. They want the bush to return to it's pre human state and be so thick that you can barely walk through it.
The only way to defeat these idiots is to run concentrated campaigns in the media showing the public what they're really up to and what 1080 does to the environment. Unfortunately, that would cost a lot of money. Game licensing for deer hunting is long overdue in this country and the revenue it would provide would go a long way towards protecting our hunting future against those that are intent on destroying it. Together we stand but divided we fall.
Full on againts this bull shit no good.
Im jamie by the way karens son

For as long as there is a heavy TB presence around that particular piece of bush and for as long as there are possums and deer in it, then it will be bombed by 1080...the only way to combat it is to get in there and remove all the possums and reduce the deer numbers...as for the dipshit who took their pup into a drop zone, I personally would happily bury my boot, too the laces, up his arse...there is no way in the world that he could have got any where near a drop zone without seeing the warning signs.
the ahb have some explaining to do with tb on the coast where there are NO possums.
apparently it is now seals and sea birds that are transmitting it.
bring on the seal and seagull seasons :D

FWIW, and knowing that politics isn't encouraged here, I will only say that Nz First policy is to end the use of aerial 1080 and move to ground based operations such as bait stations and trapping instead.
The $100 million spent on aerial 1080 operations annually at present will provide a sound base for ground operations to be built on, and it is our belief that there is a sustainable possum population level which can be harvested to provide a fur industry while protecting deer and cattle herds from TB vectors.
Not everyone will agree, but that's where we're at.
Well that sounds like a great idea, but NZ First is a waste of your vote.
Yea? Who on the list isnt a wasted vote?.....
Here we are living in a country with some of the most clever scientific minds in the world and we have not yet worked out that if we applied a mass aerial drop of a chemical sterilisation bait programme, within the life expectancy period of Possums, and Mustalids we would have achieved a mass eradication. Why is this when the idea has been put out there for some time? Colour me cynical but I reckon it is not because we don't have the science but moreover because there is no will to do it because there is no sustainable income to be had from it.
I think all the hunters should form voluntary troops and shootout/trap the areas that get 1080 drop. (firearm safety & ethical hunting practice taken in consideration - so please no crap on that) - The 100 million per year or whateva the allocation may be for the area can be used by the troops for this work. (for ammo, food, flyin etc etc ). Has this kinda thing neva been negotiated.
I guess we would be on a win-win situation if approved to do so by getting the opportunity to do what we like doing the best while eliminating the 1080 issue as well.
its more the point that 1080 kills deer and many our living things. so with out saying we target deer they find a excuse to bomb an area siting TB or biodiversity to reduce deer numbers. secondly if ground control was done deer wouldn't be targeted and thirdly someone in government or closely linked to government has a invested interest in using 90% of all 1080 manufactured and making a fuck load of money. Epro seam to rain heaps of this shit on the bush maybe a link there behind closed doors. how many years has 1080 been used yet the problem remains the same. to find a alternative one first needs to look for it
Eliminate the government problem solved:D
I guess than we cant be just moaning about it for what DOC is doing. We don't like 1080 because our spots get wasted for a year or 2 but they have a bigger picture to look at. If we protest to have 1080 drops stopped than we sure need to get an alternative to the pest problem.
My views are not in favor for the 1080 drops, i hate that too but we need to think logically as well.. We all know we have a pest problem at hand that needs to be controlled so if its NO to 1080 than definitely there needs to be some other way round. Otherwise we will soon start to blame DOC again for the pests once they are out of control. lol
1080 aerial poisoning operations cost on average in excess of $57 per ha. Most trappers get paid nothing and pay their own way through recovery and sale of skins, fur and meat. The 1080poison industry is a scam directed at killing all introduced wildlife while sustaining massive unproductive bureaucracies. For every hectare that a trapper can recover possum products at zero cost from, another hectare is created that could have a $114 subsidy placed on it without any increased cost to the farmer, forest owner or taxpayer. When you work through the figures it becomes pretty obvious what is going on in reality.
Welcome Woody.
Most of the DOC frontline guys/gals are pretty decent folk and I've always found them helpful. However, they aren't the ones that make the often irrational and stupid policies on pest control. 1080 is a government industry with DOC jobs, poison contractors jobs and other benefactors standing to lose out if 1080 was abolished.
NZ uses about 80% of the world's 1080 supply. No doubt it will be banned one day as it is in most civilized countries and future generations will look back with stunned disbelief that we allowed this to happen to our game animals and other wildlife. It's because of our typical kiwi apathy that the government has been allowed to get away with it's use.
Another local 1080 drop has taken out some stock, the Graff's have become involved which has caused the local Mayor to make a statement in the Waitomo News that he will believe Twig and Tweets line of thought before the likes of the Graff boys.
it costs around $27 to kill one possum,
and 10 kea
