    Pureora North Block

    Hi team,

Have been looking for a decent area, closer to home and accessible without a 4x4/ute - scouted access to Pureora Northblock from Tolley road last Sunday and found it was easily accessible by car so that was the plan for today.
We were up and 3am, got sorted and got there before sun rise - kitted up and walked across the DOC access over the farm and into the bush.
We hunted for the morning but ended up leaving really disappointed - there was very little deer sign, and what we did see appeared to be pretty old. We did see a fair amount of pig rooting.

Anyone else that hunts from there? have we maybe chosen the wrong saddles / gullies and water ways or is this area just not productive?

Can anyone recommend car accessible areas for Pureora's or Waikato side of the Kaimais that have reasonable populations to target? I don't mind a hike but don't have a vehicle capable of rough terrain.

Went there quite a few years ago found it the same. How i look at hunting spots is you either keep going back and learn the place or keep going to new places and learn not much. They will be there somewhere just got to learn where they are. Some times your better going with no rifle and youll concentrate more on looking around and cover more ground as you wont be creeping around. Also youll probably see deer when you have no blimmin gun

Try off Link Road in the main Pureora block. Could camp at the Kakaho reserve off Western Bays road.

Waihora lagoon camp in pureora is accessible by 2wd then it's easy to walk the tracks and peel off wherever feels good. Check boundaries though theres abit of private land out toward the east/north east front memory
