    Pureora Surrounding Areas

    Hey guys,

I imagine everyone is tight lipped this time of year, as to whether or not certain blocks have any Deer in them.

But asking on the off chance, as I am hoping to put a hind in the chiller to hold me over meat wise for the next couple of months.

Not after anyones Trophy Stag, if I happen to see one, ill likely be shooting it with the camera.

Does anyone happens to have any knowledge of any of the smaller blocks in the Pureora Surrounds? I would be keen to hear from you.

    Arapuni Scenic Reserve
    Waipapa Reserve
    Makomako Stream Reserve
    Arohena Reserve
    Wharepuhunga

    Mainly wanting to know;
Are any of these areas suitable for Hunting ?
Where is the most suitable or preferred areas to Park / Access these areas ?
Whether or not it would be ok to utilize the RTT in the Parking area for an overnight stay, leaving no waste etc ?

    Thanks in advance!

i went looking in Wharepuhunga once a year or 2 back, only saw a few goats and no deer sign, didnt feel the need to go back.
The one off Wairehi riad, there is a gate across the paper road, not sure if its locked or not, have to walk across a small piece of farm. not sure if the farmer is problematic as i havnt tried. this general area is my stomping grounds as i have access on a few properties there.

Propably walking off the end of Tollley road into Ngaroma is a good bet, good heads in there

I will one day go and explore the rest of these small blocks, but i am time poor.

I wonder about that one to the left of wairehi road, its completely surrounded by farmland, but don't know if they let you use the paper road that comes in from the east off waipari riad. i know they said no when i went doorknocking for permission to shoot their farm. They had a few sheep shot and stolen from waipari road side a few days ago i heard on the grapevine so maybe don't go ask straight away as they might be less than willing, i know they (the adjacent farmer) locked the gate across the paper road recently but not sure if its still locked.

2 weeks back went into pureora just past the piropiro campground for a walk, had a hind on the road just past the lodge when you start to go through the bush at around 10pm.. Had a couple bark at me in the dark before dawn the next morning walking to new ground I wanted to look at and had 1 on the track on the way out (had nothing up the chamber and it hopped away).

I'm extremely new to it all but keep seeing them. Hope this is helpful but numbers seem to be plentiful (or I'm just lucky at constantly finding fresh sign)
I'm heading back in in 2 weeks time for another walk with a friend.
