Working in Queenstown this week on the Glenorchy road and have the weekend free for a hunt.
Anyone keen to get out or have any tips for a likely spot for a deer as I don't know the area so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Matt.

Matt this is the message i got from my mate down there.
Not a lot of animals around the remarks: its all private land there. Head to glenorchy and take a walk up the dart valley. No hunting until he hits china, ans bluff / road end,,but look at maps, walk the track for an hour and look at the side creeks with clearings that come on down. Whitetail off the track and reds on the clearings / flats. A usually productive place.
Good luck Matt and let us know how you get on.
Thanks Dundee! :-)
Dont shoot any whitetail in the moratorium area though.
The routeburn is always good for a look but a bit further to walk and more tourist asking what your doing with a bang stick. Deer an be hard to find with all the poaching that goes one but head up high for an antelope if you get bored.
Chris
I've seen chamois up the Remarkables, but you might need mountain skills to get to them...

This is where I'm working today mate...used to climbing about!
Sweet job! I've seen them in the gullies above Queens Drive on the West Face, but that was in summer.
right above you is a block called 12 mile or something, mate went in the other week at dawn and walked out with a fallow.
How ya getting om Matt with those secret pm's I sent ya?
Hey Matt. How long are you down for? We just put ewes on our low hill to lamb. But there are a few fallow over this way as well, it might be a bit far too travel though. And I see I'm a bit late in reading this

Thanks for yours and your mates help Dundee! Managed to get out to the Dart for a day and did see my first whitetail deer, despite not getting a shot off.
Nice area up there and will hopefully get to return another time to add another deer species to my freezer! :-)
Also had a day in "Plan B" and did the 3 hour grunt up the hill...loads of fresh sign about but no deer seen.

Hi Puku,
I'm now working down in Balclutha, not sure if I will get a day off before returning to ChCh, but thanks very much for the offer!
I haven't managed to shoot a fallow in NZ yet so would be very keen to take you up on the offer if I get chance.
There are some good buggers on this forum that help to make it what it is...thanks to all that have taken the time to help!
:-)
