    Quick Overnighter

Dont know what its like elsewhere, but spring was great for hill country growth, and now theres fat and healthy animals everywhere you look
Took the son-in-law (almost) out to our hut for the night. Must have seen about a dozen deer including a few fawns, and about the same number of pigs. Got the s-i-l (a) setup a couple of times and with a bit of coaching knocked over a couple of good eaters with the new 6.5 06.
Couldnt resist a yearling just above the hut, so a bit more venny as well. You can see the hut long-drop in the top left corner

Nice. Its good that you get to use your new rifle yourself for the odd shot.

Yea mate, think about how many hard slogs we've had over the years, so I dont mind the easy ones now and again
Ive decided that this year Mick Im only gonna shoot them above the track - unless I've got the "mule" with me

Yea the yearling was a non-event really at 50 odd yards, but the browny boar was side on at 280yds so I told him to shoot it in the neck and the sow was around 200. The 143 gr at around 2900 just blew them off their feet, so pretty impressed.

by "mule" I take it you mean prospective S.I.L.......and so he jolly well should race up and down hills retrieving your animals for you...hope he races back to hut and gets billy on for cuppa tea and a hot shower for you too....if he wont ,your daughter needs to look elsewhere LMFAO.
those hard slog carries is probably why the body dont want to get out of bed in mornings.....

Nice bit of meat gathering and handy ones at that. Sounds as if the 6.5 06 works a treat.

Yea its lookin that way. Same size pill as I used in the .270 (145 gr vs 143 gr) but just got these goin a bit quicker. Still workin with seating depth to produce that one hole group which the rifle is certainly capable of - not so sure about me though

One well placed shot is the perfect group. Looks like you and your kin do that consistently.
