Thread: Rabbit Hunting near Palmerston North

Hi all!!! I am newbie hunter. Bought a .22 Ruger10/22 and a CZ .17 HMR. Now I would like to know where can I hunt some rabbits to begin with near Palmerston North. I had a look in the DOC website but didn't understand anything. The DOC lands near palmy are very small if my understanding is right. I am planning to go for some big game hunting after buying a big gun . Where would be the nearest area for this near Palmy. Please gimme the access point for the block if possible. Thanks Jo

Looks like you have a lot to learn, Generally there is no rimfire hinting in doc land only centrefire. ( unless under special permit very hard to get around here )

Also if your heading into doc controlled land you would be wasting your time and effect trying to chase small game, Deer are much harder but much for satisfying to hunt.
You are much better off heading out of town and going door knocking on some farms and trying to gain access.

Um, DOC land small around Palmerston ? Not sure what you are looking at, but both the Tararuas and Ruahines are on your doorstep. That's more hunting ground than most of us will get to cover in a lifetime...

Is this the Shane I know??? We did a test fire remember I am waiting my post grad papers to finish before I actively start my hunting. No outdoor experience at all..... yet
