Thread: Range Finder

Took my one out for a play today.

It was easy to use, had good clarity and gave me numbers every time it pushed the button.

Not sure if they numbers were correct as I had nothing to compare it too however the ranges shown were roughly what I had estimated.

Will take it to the range tomorrow and ping it against steel targets at known distances.

Very happy so far.

Yes, they are very good. I had one and was very pleased with it. Unfortunately it disappeared off my belt a few months after I bought it new. The loop on its pouch obviously gave way. I thought because of the loop failure the agent might have cut me a deal on a replacement but he wasn't forthcoming. So that was it for me with Yukon. A shame really.

Had another go with this range finder today at some known distances

The weather was gloomy with a steady drizzle and from 200m onwards was quite misty.

Targets are all painted smell of various sizes.

These are the results.
50m target ranged 50m
75m target ranged 75m
100m target, ranged 99m
150m target ranged 149m
200m target ranged 199m
450m target ranged 456m ( this target had almost all the paint worn off and was very hard to see through the mist).

All in all very accurate and still very pleased with this unit.

Was that through the nelson agents?
Bummer as I had awesome customer service from them. Can understand their position on it however but at the same time like you said it was the supplied products failure that led to the loss.

My display had started to fade after about 2.5 year's? They replaced it under warranty no questions asked. Would constantly range at out to 1600 odd in good conditions
I only replaced it for a sig Sauer 2000 kilo as it has tbr.

Mine arrived today. everything works as it should. I just need to test it with some known distances.

Just an update in binoculars - I'm not loving them. They are cheap but I recommend that the importer get some better stuff.

Main issue I'm finding is that I can't seem to get the whole view to be sharp and that's becoming quite tiring on my eyes.

I'm excited to test the Leopold binos that are coming soon.

The rangefinders are back in stock if anyone is interested. I just ordered one. Hopefully you guys that have had them a while are still happy with them?

Will test bigger distances in due course.

Very happy! I bought it primarily for .22LR target practice, no more messing around with bits of string. Worth it for that alone! Hopefully, I'll get to use it on a real hunting trip at some point.

I bought the 1000m model of this SNDWAY rangefinder direct from the manufacturer via Aliexpress, and so far I am very impressed with the value for money. This was an alternative to spending $3-400++ on a higher spec second-hand model with TBR. Actual cost from memory was about $120 delivered.


Pros -
In-built micro-USB rechargeable battery. (Might be a con for some as you can't take a spare with you, but easily recharged from any powerbank)
Angle adjustment/True Ballistic Range.
Reaches claimed range, and then some. (happily ranges a hedgerow and lone trees at 1180y/1080m in varying conditions)(Range checked as accurate via google earth)
Reasonably compact, lightweight.(~200g in included belt pouch)
Much clearer glass than I was expecting.. no complaints at all about clarity. Can see anything you need to see.

Cons -
Very poor low light optical performance. Still gets a range fine, however glass becomes very dim a bit earlier than you might expect.
Eye-strain if using for more than a couple minutes at a time.
Relatively broad beam, can sometimes pick up objects on the edge of the crosshair, rather than punching past them. If it's going to be a tricky range to get, worth checking a few times to make sure you're getting a read off the correct object.

Value for money in my mind? Absolutely yes.

Right about two weeks. (this was in Nov. last year)

Should also add that it is switchable between Metres and Yards.

Im pretty interested in getting one of these rangefinders! What website was everyone using to buy them? @Dougie's original link seems to take me to a $3,750 rangefinder for some reason

I just got the SW-1000A. It arrived last week.

Only took a couple of weeks to get here. Seems pretty good thus far.

Cost worked out to about $130 nz so not bad value.
