Try this place, grid reference 5180314N 1569211E
I think he might have been looking for somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere Stu.
Gotta love this shit eh! Suggest you join in with the other thread re guides, theres plenty there that will help you out........................for a price. Or you could read some of the Forum rules, go to the intro section, introduce yourself, establish a bit of a rep as a good bastard. And then somebody might be interested in helping you out. Plenty of us do, plenty of us have, but right now we dont know you from a bar of soap.
well dont get in the shower with husky1600 or you might get rubbed up the wrong way!!!!!!!
troll detection going off for anyone else here???
Thanks for your words of infinite wisdom Cyclops, but neither a position given as a latitude and longitude nor one given as an NZMS grid reference have anything whatsoever to do with gps.

My point, which you only partially understood, was that many don 't know the difference between a northing-easting and lat-long coordinate systems as they have only used a GPS system.
You, @Sauer, are correct the northing-easting need reference to a location.
It was an additional point that I didn't make because that wasn't relevant to my post. Thanks for your post.
And of course there are more technical details around the use of lat-long, GPS, coordinate systems that I did not mention either because they weren't relevant too.
For those struggling with the topo grid reference, here are the lat long -43.529198 172.618732
Ive been through that area many times as a kid. Never seen any deer but a few your dears used to hang out there.....
Unknown stream a good area.....;)
Ring up High Peak Station after the lock downs finish. They should let you shoot a couple of fallow or stag for a small fee.And they are not easy to get near either, fallow that is.
No decent stags in Canterbury. Best you go somewhere else ;)
Watch the NZ Hunter series, particularly the one where he takes his wife hunting. That general area (North Canterbury, from the Waimakiri up to the Lewis) is as good a place as any to start in the Sth Is. Enjoy, there are enough deer for everyone, and those who work hard will reap the rewards (usually, but thats hunting)
Should add, if you haven't hunted in the Sth Is yet, its best to go with someone and not be too ambitious, it might take a couple of trips to get really proficient - the Southern Alps and especially its rivers, are not that forgiving of poor preparation or haste.
I heard all the stags in Canterbury had gone into self isolation on the west coast
