On Sunday 22 March I missed a sitter at 50m! On the shot the hind leapt upward into some fern and then bounded back a split second later to gather its fawn and scarper. A fruitless search was followed by a dejected trip home. The following day the announcement was made that we were moving to Alert Level 4 at midnight that Wednesday...bugger!
Yesterday I got the chance to redeem myself on the back paddock of a large farm/bush block in CNI. 15 - 20 minutes after leaving the truck I spied a familiar red rump and on closer inspection with a brand new set of Swaro CL Pocket 8x25 binos - magic, there's more and I can get closer. Drop back out of sight, down the gully and up the other side. Back pack off, range 160m. Select a nice hind, settle in, pick my shot and squeeze the trigger - redemption!
And finally, I got to blood my refurbished BSA 7x57.
