    Road end camping spots.

Hi all, Now I don`t want your top spots, it`s just the way I have to hunt now, eg, I go in with a small caravan on my 2lt car as base camp and hunt from there. My Easter hunt I was in the Pureora piropiro camping spot a week before the holiday weekend, but everyone with a 4x4 and A T V was in there as well , so no good. So just looking for some road end spots to camp and hunt from with a reasonable road to get in. Have tried Okahu road in the Whirinaki, not bad, good camp. How is Ngaroma rd in the Pureora for driving in with a caravan?. How is Clements road to the camp site?. I know I should just park the caravan and go for a drive to see , but I`m hoping some one has driven in to the road ends, parked and pack, rifle on, up the track to the spot , it`s the road ends I'm looking for that could be good to camp and hunt there, there`s a lot I don`t know about, Thanks guys, if you see me in there the billy goes on. PS I`m based in AKL.

Maybe the Plateau road end out the back of Matea- Eastern/ southern boundary of Kaingaroa forest. It's one of my favourite areas as I grew up out those ways with my Poppa but it's easily accessible via Kaingaroa / a permit, nice creeks and when one pushes into the native the options are limitless.
I'm out that way every weekend.

Clements Mill Road would be a doddle for your caravan, plenty of spots some with long drops and fire places already set up.....good luck in your quest at least your getting out!!!!
While I might not be as good as I once was, Im as good once as I ever was!

Ngaroma only has a small car park, at the end of Tolley Rd.
It's actually on private land, but there's access through the farm to Pureora North.
To be honest, I don't think it's an option.

PS how about Littles Clearing in the Kaweka's ?

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Kaimanawa Road has a bunch of campsites. Few animals around, bit of an uphill slog though to get into the animals

Thanks guys for the reply's, My tow car is a ford focus and it`s the front wheel drive that can get you in trouble. Have hunted Clements a fair bit so it sounds ok to get to the middle camping spot, my caravan is self contained so no problem, can even have a shower!!. Danny the Plateau rd I found is near Reporoa,? I was looking at going to Main rd then South rd through Minginui , is this in the area, looks good but a pine tree across the road scrubbed it , it says 4x4 good, 2x with care?. So is the permit for the Kaingaraoa forest and cuts to the Whirinaki park, a few more road names so I can google it. Got to have a bit of luxury there's days, the metal hip`s no good sleeping on the ground. Thanks guys, I`m over due for a feed of venison.

Easy contour hunting if you camp at the Pillars car park on Kaimanawa Rd (good car access), or camp at the Urchin and hunt down towards the Pillars (rougher car access).

+1 @Frogfeatures. Love Little's Clearing, tho I haven't made it down there for years. Dunno if it's still there, but there used to be a longdrop, and heaps of sign all around. Saw quite a few animals when bowhunting, but too impatient, so no results. Bit of a slog down to the river for water, so I used to take a 20l container for coffee and cooking. A lovely spot.
Used to be a fine wine - now I'm vinegar.

There's a spring, opposite side of the clearing to the long drop. Just have to push through the scrub. Over the road from the access rd to the clearing hunts well too. A few nice claypans a couple of hundred metres down.

Thanks again guys for all the info, this will keep me google checking spots and roads, I know they are well used, but deer have legs and walk so I will be doing the same. Keneff is" littles clearing" off the Gentle Anne rd, what`s the name of the accesses rd in to it, but could be a bit far to go from AK , have to keep the peace in the home camp. "You are going where" Will be looking at going away in September, spring grass feeding time, looking at Okahu rd camp at this stage, but will keep looking , best to learn all about a spot so you know it. Cheers guys.

Did you drive right to end of the road?we were there when the rain came-the creek was huge with 3-4 ft boulders rolling down.Had to leave vehicles there for 4 weeks till the scratched atrack for us-bit of a mission for the Hiace van!! Is the main road open yet to turn off?We had to get escorted thru Kaiangaroa to Minginui when we got vehicles out. They are meant to be fixing Okahu Rd sometime in the Summer.
