Littles clearing is in the eastern Kaweka off Whittles road.

Probally struggle to tow a caravan in there with a Ford Focus.

Drove to end of road...4wd only... No its or buts! Road still closed between Murupara and Te Whaiti, forestry open to residents only apparently... Well pickle me bloody agates, P38, Biggun,Thanks for the heads up on Okahu rd, , that's off the list. Clements rd has gone to the head of my A list, a bit more searching for . b, c. This is what I have to watch out for with the poor old family car, O to win lotto. . Then there's flying in, but looking at the prices would need five guys to keep it down at bit, I'm retired, moneys tight, well we could all be in that boat, will keep looking.

Hi @Frogfeatures. Yep, it's a good spot. @homebrew.357, I' from Auckland, too, and yes, it's a bit of a trip. I go via Taupo onto Napier-Taupo Rd. About 2-3 kms (I Think) past Te Pohue, Glengarry Rd on your right, to Puketitiri, Bear left onto Whittle Rd, which will take you past Little's Clearing. This will give you more detailed infohttps://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC101PB_little-clearing-hawkes-bay?guid=4664f9c3-0edd-4526-9598-25503707f099is Snow sometimes closes the road, so check with DOC or someone. Good luck.

To me if going N T hiway I would just go in to Clements rd, don`t have to go right in, just find a parking/ camping spot off the rd and hunt from there. walk down the rd a bit and head up into the bush, the rd`s your come back to compass point and could be a few more deer in the front country as lots just drive past it.

Kiko road is another option, just north of Turangi.
Space to fit a caravan at the road end. May struggle with a Ford Focus but I got a front wheel drive maxima up there with the kids over Christmas. Mate used to take his caravan up there.

@keneff I take exactly the same route.
Met a guy called Jim, from Tauranga, who used to tow a pop top caravan, with a 2wd into Littles Clearing.
Real nice guy, been going there for years.
The contorta, going towards The Black Birch, has got away over the years too.

Kilo Rd used to have a problem with cars getting broken into.
Not sure what's it's like these days.

After casing it around a bit I think Naroma road in the Pureora park will be the go, I will tow the caravan to the start of the road , look for a parking spot, unhook the van and then drive in to see if I can go in any further with my van to a better park up spot. Will be in there for five days , so a good look around and this is how you learn a new area.
