    The Roar is on!!!

The Roars started in our area. Went today, stags going good.
Had three going for it in Doc Land. Exciting stuff esp when i got to within 60m of one twice. Slipped down a bank to stuff up the first attempt to shot it.
second time half a hour later his hind busted me. She went nuts, barking for ages, should she stuffed it for me so decided i just shoot the hind as needed some meat.
That was a stuff up too as the neck shot missed and ended up with only this..

Exciting! Hopefully the reds down further south are going to be roaring this weekend when I am out there, though I am mostly out just to learn a new area. Just going to assume the worst so i don't get disappointed.
I love the unusual non-symmetrical antlers, kind of looks like something you would see on a monster like a wendigo.

This is not helping my jealousy of those out hunting.

Good to hear them going tho ay, nothing beats roaring reds in the bush.
Cool to find your head too, hard to tell fron photo but are his pedicles not symmetrical on his scull also?

Looking forward to your next post where I am sure you will have tipped one up.

No croaking here yet, fallow usually kick off mid april but theres a couple of young fellas having a bit of a sparring match over yonder right now. Good to see as the bucks seem to vanish in January and reappear about now

    I wont brag.

But this guy came charging in a few days ago on public land.

    Heard him roar.

Then I replied a few times and he went mental and proceeded to stand broadside at 200y.

I shot a young hind last night and then couldn't find her in the gloom / dark for half an hour. Finally found her with my nose. When I skinned her this morning I realised the 'Deer Smell' was rutty stag on her bum. I thought back and when I first glassed her I had waited to decide if it was 15 month girl or an older hind with a fawn. A rubbish stag had appeared, he was a bit thin and rutty for mince so I didnt shoot him but he started to push the hind around the hill meaning I had to chase them. When I caught up, the stag was cresting the next ridge and the hind was left behind and promptly lay down in the Tussock. With the smell on her bum and back I am sure the stag had just rooted her, the dirty bastard
