    Roar over?

Went into the Tararuas the last two days, very very quiet... Didn't hear any roars the whole time, about an hour off the track found some good sign and a recently used wallow but then the weather turned to shit and we had to come out. Looks like the roars over until next year!

And no one believes that NZ is over hunted and that 1080 really kills everything?

Farmed deer generally start earlier and carry on later than deer in the wild. This is mostly because the stags are close to big herds of hinds not all of which will fall pregnant of the first pass through so those that don't will continue to cycle and excite the stags in close proximity until they do fall pregnant.

The same happens in the wild but to a lesser degree as the stags are holding and covering fewer hinds.

I shot my 11pointer on the 17th of this month, heard a few roars that afternoon and evening, but nothing on the morning i shot him. Mate was telling me it was a bit late to start so thought it might go on a bit longer but seems very hit and miss from what I hear on here and other guys

I had last been in this spot in the tararuas about ten years ago and remember there being lots of roars and we had a real close encounter and a near miss. This time I saw heaps and heaps of game trails but fuck all sign, something had passed through but a few days ago and the good sign I found took an hours hard graft. Must be either 1080 or just shot out eh... Real bugger.
