Thread: Rusa hunting New Caledonia

Hi Guys,

I’ve had an opportunity come up with my work to go to New Caledonia on a semi regular basis, anyone hunted there before and have any recommendations? Google seems to provide plenty of guided hunting options, is this the only way to hunt here if you’re not a local? Do you need a hunting permit? Is there many hoops to jump through to take a rifle there?

No military designated calibers allowed. Easy enough to get a gun in. I used a guide but not sure if its mandatory - certainly made it easy. Great experience. Plenty of Rusa. 15 years ago though.

Thanks Bruce, I vaguely recall your trip report at the other pub I think? Looks like there are plenty of options, Javan seems to be popping up a fair bit. What’s the difference @muzza? Antler shape from what I can tell? I’ve never hunted them before
