Santoft Sambar?

G'day guys,

I'm quite keen to have a crack at a sambar this winter, I'm in the Wellington region so the Manawatu area is the closest sambar spot for me. I'm thinking of getting a Santoft forest permit but have no idea what block/when to go, or if it's even worth it. Many animals in there or does it get hammered?

Being a broke uni student a $50 permit better be bloody worth it because that's a lot of potential booze money wasted if I don't at least see an animal... ;)

Quite possibly better off going dry for a bit and see if a sambar hind meat hunt is doable on a private farm. A hind has a hell of a lot of meat on her.

I have never been to santoft.

I Had a Santoft block last year. Pretty low numbers, none sighted by me.
