    Scent control.

    Hey Guys.
I'm interested to know how many of you use some form of scent elimination?
And what other methods you use to minimize your scent.

Before I go I shower and wash with baking soda (teeth aswell)
I walk the track in street clothes then
once I leave the track I try to cool down, rub some baking soda on my sweaty bits then put on my hunting gear which I wash with borax.
I stash my street clothes and pick them up on the way out.

I'm going to buy some colidil silver to use instead of the baking soda when I'm hunting.

    Thoughts?

I normally shower soap free before I go. All hunting clothes on when leaving house unless I'm driving 6 or more hours. I don't use any fancy soaps for my gear. Soon as I hit the bush I grab a hand full of Manuka leaves rub them all over my clothes and gear. Wash sweat off body and clothes off in creeks when I can middle of day when it's the hottest or end of day at camp winter time and dry out in front of a fire but I try not to smoke my gear out.
During the roar I will cut off the first stags piss flap on his belly and rub it over my stalking gear and also good for rubbing on sticks around wallows a good trick I learnt off the old man.

Man you guys go to some trouble, usual shower in the morning before work. After work chuck my hunting gear on and just go hunting. The only thing i normally worry about is hunting into the wind.

Hunt into the wind. That's not a bad start. I suspect a deers nose is good enough to outwit supposed scent control.

I've got to ask and don't take this the wrong way, but how much hunting experience have you got?
Are you new to hunting as in just starting out?
You could be over thinking it,the whole scent thing, it's as easy as just hunting into the wind to have it in your favour. Your local sports shop will sell you everything you need and half the stuff you don't.
Just get out there and do it, yes you will learn from your mistakes.
Sound and movement will spook animals as well as scent. It's all about learning on the job there's no magic bullet.

Yeah I'm pretty green. Yet to shoot anything in the bush other than a few wallibies.
Been trying to get a deer for a year now.
I think you right I'm overthinking it and been watching too many whitetail bowhunters on YouTube.

I do my best to hunt into the wind. But I don't find it as easy as people make it sound.
I've been out this morning and I swear the breeze changed direction every 60 seconds.

    Thanks for your input everyone.

Cullers didn't go to much trouble in the washing department and most did well. If you have the wind in the wrong direction don't think the flash wash up will save the day.

Scent control is really only necessary for when you are sitting in one spot at a tree stand and the wind will be swirling, like in US whitetail hunting. Take Ginga's advice and hunt into the wind.

And usually the wind is coming predominantly from one direction.... Never bothered with any scent control and deer still walk out onto clearings less than 100m away (not lately though, swear there no deer left over here)

I sometimes use anise oil dabbed onto clothing especially in tight bush. It is known as a bear and deer attractant and there is some anecdotal evidence it can cover scent. I can't really say for sure whether it has helped me. As others say, hunt into wind.

The yanks get into with different sprays pretty sure they now claim to have some garments that keep sent in ! years ago I was told by a old fella he gets his swanny & rubs a ewe fleece or 2 over it for 2 reasons 1 he reckoned the lanolin helped waterproof it & 2 he smelt like an old ewe walking around the bush ,could be something for myth busters here , iv gone hunting countless times after work & its never made a dif & I stink like a mob of sheep.. rams now that stink turns heads when you walk into the shop
Actually the same fella told me he washes his dog with soap before he went out as well ...to try & lesson the dog smell maybe the deer prefer the smell of pantene !
