Scroggin - I always have a feeling mine could be better.
Not interested in hippie stuff - sunflower seeds 'n all.
Do like cashews, but need more than that...
What are peeps go-tos?

rather take beef jerky, good protein hit and weighs bugga all
I like me scroggin too, and not all the hippy stuff. I add raisins, cranberries, dried apricots cut up small and chocolate buttons from the cooking aisle, the cheap ones. Sometimes add some dried apples cut up, but not too many cos they expand! Theres heaps of different things in the cooking aisle at the stoopidmarket, lots cheaper than buying from the other aisles.
biltong/jerky/dry wors - not gonna last with me around.
But yes.
I've been making deer jerky. The benefit of eating it in the mountains is that it tastes so good that it inspires me to find more deer to make more jerky.
Any protein or sugar works well for me. Dark choc/M&Ms dried fruit and seeds, Jerky & salami in a separate bag as I like it still a little moist.
When I was a scout I used to have salted peanuts and energy chocolate as the only ingredients in my Scroggin mix. These days I might put cashews in as well or macadamia nuts if I have won lotto
I'm a big fan of peanut m&ms and chocolate coffee beans for a good energy hit.
And any sort of nuts, especially almonds.
Fruits wise I put in banana chips, dates, dried apple or apricots.
My snacks are salted roast nuts mix. And for a good mix of protein and fat a boiled egg or 2 per day. Bonus of boiled eggs is the wrapping is biodegradable. Quite filling too.
I get the below and mix in the chocolate drops, gives heaps of energy and good blend of fruit and nuts.
I buy this: https://www.motherearth.co.nz/our-pr...eluxe-mix-450g or something similar, then add some raisins, dates, and M&Ms... just have to make sure the kids don't "mine" it for the M&Ms... simple. And the M&M's don't melt when it gets hot (had that issue with chocolate bits a few times)
Some awesome suggestions.
So, how much / day?
I tend to over-cater, with scroggin I don't much like.
It means I will never starve to death for lack of food as there will always be a bag of scroggin at the bottom of my pack, but that is not the point.
I have about a double handful of scroggin per day, plus another bag with crushed up corn chips for when I feel like a savoury hit - a 150g bag will last me around 3 days at least. Any of the dried meat snacks are a good option to add, but I find some of the american style jerky to be quite sweet... I often just have cheese, vitawheat crackers and salami for lunch...
