When you mention Cocky I presume you meaning off West Bays road on East side
I accessed head of Waihaha from the Hauhungaroa Range near the divide of the top of the Totara workings that come in from Ongarue
You can access this via the walking track now in that starts at Ongarue Stream Road on S-West under Tuhua
Great country - unfortunately for me got hammered with 1080 in the late 80's which sent me on my way south.
Last open country I have hunted

Where ever you go, the 1080 will follow.

You could ask about parking at the Tihoi Venture School down sideroad near Tihoi Trading Post. Might even get a staff member to drop you off at Waihaha bridge.

The waihaha carpark is pretty good these days. Still see the odd bit of broken glass occasionally.... Pigs are definitely around there both sides of the western bays road. You see a fair bit of Rooting heading east from the carpark on the mountain bike track.

I have pig hunted up there for many years, but haven’t been back there in the last couple of years. I have caught pigs from 500 metres from the bridge to way past the hut, there are some good size pigs in there.
I used to get to the big clearings and head to the right, but they are where they are,, go take a look. I always parked at the bridge unless I was doing an overnighter

Plenty pigs in there, just go for a wander. Always vehicles parked down there, they seem safe enough
