Have used two glow sticks at night, one at the firing point and another 10 meters behind. That way when your close to the animal you can look back and line up the two, rangerfinders there for the assist on distance.
Always have my Mil silva compass on me too, doesn't take 5 seconds to shoot and convert a back bearing.

The Google map looks good. Drop your point and head towards it.Good clear sat imagery as well
