Was too early for grass on the river flats and the hebe's up top had only just started to come back after winter. Still plenty of sign about 40mtr up off the valley floor and again just inside the tree line up top. Saw hoof prints were they had been crossing the valley floor a couple of km up stream as well.
I'm sure a lazy hunter (like myself) could get a meat animal on the river flats in late spring or early summer just by doing sun rise and sun set hunts.
