Clements rd . Have a look on the DOC website, all of the main acccess points have deer somewhere in there, just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other and going for a look!
Where abouts were you thinking of going?

I'm really enjoying learning around this area, seriously just walk off the road. Be careful that you aren't in an army area, might end badly! but just park up, walk up a re-entry and think like a deer. Sneaky little fecks are in there!!!

I haven't actually checked my Spot X book around there but Google Maps is also your friend.

Enjoy it mate, no place in this world like desert road. Love that place.

Look up the Te Ringa track off Clements. A lot of animals in there and a lot of sign just off the track. Went there for the first time and spooked 3 animals off the track within 10 minutes and picked up a little stag by 10 in the morning! definitely a good place to start.

    Wear high vis in there!.

    Hi Kiwiman,
did ya go and how did you get on?
Myself and a buddy are going into Oamaru hut for 3 or 4 days at the end of the month. Were in there the same time last year, lotsa sign and a few whistles but didnt see any once we were through Poronui (26). They out sneaked us. Bit of a change of plan for me, gonna take a book, find a likely spot and sit and read. Hard for me to sit still though.

Try the 5th creek up from the hut it is on your topo map two deer were taken from there over a 24 hour period by a couple of other hunters when I was there a couple of years ago

The deer are there, last winter went in and smoked a deer just off the road, then a stag on standing on the track, then a hind in the bush.not a bad effort for a day and half. The weather was shit, but it chased the people away.
