South Big Glory Block - Stewart Island

    Gidday all,

Just wanting some advice please if anyone is able to help.

Have booked the South Big Glory Block on Stewart Island.

Just wanting to know if anyone has any experience on this block or the general area? What’s the bush like? Terrain? Deer numbers? Are you able to fish the bay?

There doesn’t seem to be much info on it that I can find.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

Last went there in 2018. Camp site is about 70-100 metres up hill from the beach. Fishing available right through the Big Glory bay and better as you head out. Lots of Kiwi's seen. We shot 2. Mates were in the Little Gig Glory block in the autumn and not much about. Be careful heading South as quite flatish in areas and very easy to get lost without GPS etc

Just been to Lords river Andrew. Its quite a way from where you are going though. Think the whitetail behaviour should be similar. They're tricky little buggers for sure. Not being one to sit on my arse for long periods I found the best way to hunt them was move in from bush edge and as soon as you see sign slow right down . They seem to be in the small open patches in good open bush areas that get a little sun. Usually have crown fern close. Find bush that is good , that you can see a way through. If theres no sign dont stay there , look for hotspots. When you find them ,just sit and lean against a tree or whatever. Theyre sneaky, small and bloody quiet. These areas are quite often close to the beach / hut or whatever. Found there was more movement/ action after a good rain , take GPS , we used Topo 50 s but still got mucked up,haha. Happy hunting/ fishing , its an amazing place.

Awesome team thanks heaps for the help!

Any idea if fishing from the beach or rocks is an option? Not sure we’ll have a dinghy.

Great Intel about the flat part of the island…cheers!
