Yep spot on. These pilots are the first to help out when the shit goes down, then we bag'em for their supposed bad behaviour. Look at the bigger picture.....

No idea if he charged for his time or not, I'm sure he could have found better things to do with his time than helping out if he so wished.

I don't think what you have said is correct 223nut.

Take it from someone who is involved in the aviation industry, ANY commercial aircraft is extremely expensive to operate and maintain. There is no way this would have been done without payment.

No-one who owns any machine worth of the order of US$1,000,000 and that cost in the order of $1,000 plus per hour just to operate, without making any income out of it, is going to do this out of some sense of community spirit.

Believe me, when you are talking those sorts of figures, you need to keep the aircraft in the air for as many hours a day as possible because it is not making you any money sitting on the ground.

But perhaps you are right, maybe he would rather have watched the tele or gone fishing than take the opportunity to generate some revenue from his expensive machine.

Wow, you mean there was an opportunity to make a quick buck? And he took it?

    WHAT A HERO!

    WHAT A BLOODY GOOD BLOKE!

I never did understand why helicopter drivers are idols for some, especially in a case like this, where the guy is known to be illegally hunting a recreational hunting area. Not only did he make money off a civil defense emergency like a leech, he does not care that he is commercially operating in a public reserve, which is effectively stealing from me and you. But more than that, he thinks he is better than us because he does it blatantly, and gets away with it.
This is your hero? This guy?

    FFS!!!

A Leech? Would you happily donate your time and 50k of your own money while trying to run a buisness for a civil defence issue? Bullshit.

It is not just the helicopter and his time that has to be paid for.

Costs of running an ATO are huge.
All I know of the bloke in question is he had a good name among my peers when I was in the industry.

And those wanting him to fall out of the sky coz he shoots a few deer he shouldnt, is fucking pathetic. Check yourselves.

I just hope people that think that, are never in need of someone with his skills, to save your life one day.

I know he has certainly risked his life numerous times to help people.

He did not 'donate' 50K to anyone. To who? Who was the check made out to?

Save your hero worship for people who actually deserve it. Not a word against the illegal hunting from either of you.
Let helicopter drivers just be helicopter drivers. You hire them to take you places.

You may want a read what posted again.
I am pretty sure I mentioned someone wanting him to fall out the sky for shooting a few deer he shouldn't.

I don't see anyone hero worshiping either.
    Providing a different opinion/argument maybe.

I'm no expert on waro or legal definitions of crown land managed by doc but I would be very surprised if he was hunting from a chopper in an area he wasn't allowed. What the hell does it matter to you anyway Carlsen how does this affect you? Your profile says port chalmers... Long way from were this is going on

Oh dear! I sense moral indignation in this thread but sense it may well be a mask for jealousy.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
