    South Island trip

The missus and I are heading south in early December for a few weeks, so she can study alpine plants. Will take either (possibly both) my 6.5x55 Tikka and .223 Howa. Approximate route is: mt lyford, inland from kaikoura, mt Dobson in fairlie area, mt Hutt, near methven, lake Oahu area then to Cromwell before travelling Nevis road to Garston, eyre mts, remarkables, mavora lakes, Sth arm Manapouri, across to Dunedin to check it out, before Dunstan trail to omakau, old man range, mt Buster, danseys pass, hakataramea valley and northward.

My prime responsibility will be to carry her camera gear as she suffers from mobility issues, but is unstoppable. Any suggestions as to an area that may produce a feed, would be most welcome. Eg: “there are plenty of hares up the....”
    Cheers in advance.

Btw if you see a white d-max towing one of those Ozzie camper trailers, say gidday.

Wow, what a journey. Pretty much going to be something wherever you go. I see no reason you cant have fresh wild meat on the plate near every night. Hares and rabbits, goats, deer in the foot hills in inland canterbury, maybe also wallabys in south canterbury. Central Otago will be rabbit heaven. You might also get a few hares and even goats through the Nevis (watch the fords if there has been a lot of rain through there). Deer in Mavora and Manapouri. Greeny Councillors in Dunedin. Someone else can fill the gaps in

Take lots of pictures please, would love to see them on your return.

ps: Joking about the Dn councillors of course.

Not really on your itinerary but if you pass by Nelson Lakes feel free to give me a PM. My wife is a bit of a plant geek so would be interested in the trip.
