I don't think there is public access up through the quarry but if you know a freindly farmer anywhere along there it could be very good. You either have to go up the Te Tuhi track, or up Wairere falls or in from the Kaimai summit. Both are quite a distance to walk to Mangamuka but there's similar country around those. High plateaux nice bush, swamps and occasional clearings (interspersed with a certain amount of supplejack).
