Invercargill but i can drive out anywhere sort of 1 hour range.

Where is the best place to start ? and what road should i enter through ? ( i know this is a big ask but a point in the right direction would be awsome !

The longwood is your nearest. DoC online permit. U also need to talk to Lindsay n Dixon in tuatapere they issue permits for their part of forest. It's busy, but like many of us, you will only see sign when you get out of your vehicle and walk. Quietly.

Wear blaze and more blaze. Carry a torch!

It appears to be thumped hard by spot lighters so getting away from the main tracks is a definite.

There are red deer n pigs in there. Quietly and slowly is the way.

And enjoy the walk. Don't expect to come home with meat every trip. Do the hours. Eventually u might be in the right place at the right time.

Read up on here about gear you should carry. PM me if you want more info but most of its on here already.

ALL DoC administered blocks in Southland hold moderate numbers of deer. Like SiB says, get of the "main tracks" and you'll find animals.

The doc website is a GREAT place to start. If you see anywhere on there that interests you, send me a PM and I'll help you out with places there to look.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
