    Southland Trip

    Hi Team,

I am flying back home to Southland for opening weekend of duckshooting in May and kicking around for five days until the second weekend. I am thinking about going for a meat hunt in between for four or so days.

Just wondering if anyone could recommend some good areas (preferably with a hut and decent deer numbers) in the Southland or Otago area for that time of year.

I already know a few spots but want to broaden my horizons past my usual hunting grounds.

    Cheers!

This map will help you find huts and hunting areas.
I've only hunted Cattle Flat and Wiakaia but there are no public huts in those blocks

i would pretty much go onto any public land that isnt the longwoods, ive spent alot of time in mavora/snowdon but youve got to get of the beaten track a bit as its a somewhat popular spot. also i would check out the borland area, along with the eyre mountains and the takitimu's. we are really spoiled for choices down here
