Well @GNAR, I hope you have fun in your adventures into the Kaimai's. I just hope you don't think you can enter the park via the summit on the Tauranga/Hamilton highway and fish in the Whaitawheta stream as they are a five day walk apart. If you are going to hunt the tracks, then be mindful of other users of the park as not all will be happy with your presence. Keep in mind that if you do stick an arrow into an animal, it is going to run away to die...it ain't gunna drop on the spot...so you will need to learn tracking skills, like, real fast. That deer is going to go deep into the shit at a remarkable speed.
Without nav skills, I see only SAR doing any "tracking" - Should be joining up with deerstalkers and getting a mentor pronto.
